Assalamu’alaikum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh,

As we find ourselves in the middle of Ramadan, many of us may be feeling the effects of the “mid-Ramadan slump.” The initial spiritual high has settled, the long nights of Taraweeh feel heavier, and the enthusiasm for Quran recitation may start to wane. The daily routine—Suhoor, Fajr, work or school, Iftar, Isha, and Taraweeh has become familiar, yet the final stretch of Ramadan still feels distant.

Athletes often refer to this phase in endurance sports as “hitting the wall”—that critical moment in a marathon where exhaustion kicks in, and the finish line seems impossibly far. Your body aches, your energy dips, and the thought of giving up creeps in. But seasoned runners know that this is exactly when persistence matters most.

Similarly, this stage of Ramadan is where true taqwa (God-consciousness) is cultivated. The first ten days serve as a warm-up, fueled by excitement and motivation. But real spiritual growth happens now—when you push through fatigue to continue fasting, when you stand in prayer despite the heaviness in your limbs, when you recite Quran even as your eyes grow tired.

If Ramadan were just a fleeting spiritual boost, many would abandon their efforts by now—just as New Year’s resolutions fade within weeks. But you’re still here, fasting, praying, and striving. Why? Because your purpose goes beyond temporary motivation; it is rooted in a deep commitment to Allah SWT. This phase of Ramadan is a powerful training ground for jihad al-nafs (striving against the self), where we prioritize our connection with our Creator over mere comfort.

So if you feel your energy dwindling, don’t be discouraged. Instead, recognize this as the most transformative part of your Ramadan journey. Every moment of perseverance strengthens your faith, preparing you not just for the blessed last ten nights but for the months ahead as well.

Stay steadfast, remain patient, and remind yourself of Allah’s promise:

يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱصْبِرُوا۟ وَصَابِرُوا۟ وَرَابِطُوا۟ وَٱتَّقُوا۟ ٱللَّهَ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُون

“O believers! Patiently endure, persevere, stand firm, and be mindful of Allah, so you may be successful.” (Quran 3:200)

May Allah grant us the strength to continue striving and the reward of a spiritually fulfilling Ramadan.
